Compare and Contrast : Depressants, Stimulants, and Hallucinogens

In this blog you need to use specific examples from the interventions we have watched to compare and contrast the three categories of drugs we have studied; depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens.

  1. Depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens are the main kinds of drugs that are severely abused today. Even though excess use of all these drugs can become very harmful, each drug has its own different type of effect.

Depressants are used to slow down a person, which causes them to become drowsy, relaxed, and sleepy. Basically, people find pleasure in depressants because it calms them down. For example, Al, from an intervention, was addicted to Meth; Not only was he addicted to meth, but he was addicted to taking depressants after meth so he can slow down the high effects of meth, therefore, balancing it out. Also, depressants are used when someone is high because some think it will help them relax and calm down. It does have that effect, but its terribly harmful because once that person loses that high they become calm, and if they have taken the depressant, they become extra calm and depressed. For example, Nicole, who was addicted to alcahol, would take depressants because her mother thought it would help her, but really it just made her extra depressed.

Stimulants, on ther other hand, do the opposite of depressants; They increase alertness, euphoria, sleeplessness, pulse rate, & blood pressure. Stimulants are found in opiates such as, Heroin & Morphine. Also, they are in inhalants and meth. The people in the interventions, such as: the girl who was addicted to heroin; Allison, who was addicted to inhalants; and Al who was addicted to meth are addicted to the high energetic feeling that the stimulants give them. If a person becomes dependant on these kinds of drugs, then when they don't get their daily use of that drug they go into withdrawl, which can lead to harmful long-term effects, such as: brain damage, hearing loss, memory loss, and even death.

Hallucinogens have a sort of effect of both depressants and stimulants, but mostly stimulants. Hallucinogens inculde: LSD, PCP, Marijuana, and Mushrooms. They cause a person to see and hear things because they lose control over their thoughts and emotions. They start to live in their own imaginary world. For example, the guy in the intervention, who was addicted to hallucinogens, lived in his own world that he was this famous, successful DJ who was known by everyone, but in reality he was a drug addict loser who had no job and relied on his mother for money and food. The problems with hallucinogens are it causes short-term memory loss, visual impairment, anxiety reactions, and much more.

Overall, depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens have different types of effects, but all those different effects can lead to 1 main effect, death.

  2. Depressants are a type of drugs slow down behavior and cognition. The most common depressants used are alcohol. Some short term effects are perception blurred, and motor processes limited. Long term effects are liver disease and kidney damage. One day, we watched this video on a young girl named Nichole. Nichole’s old boyfriend broke up with her for her sister, after five years of dating. After this moment, she turned to beer to “numb” the pain of heartache. Without her beer, her body can’t function, which is a prime example of substance dependency. Her whole family is screwed up and so that doesn’t help that the fact that Nichole is heading down the wrong path. The whole family blames Nichole’s sister for Nichole’s hardships and addiction. Nichole goes with her mom, only when she knows that she can get beer.

Stimulants excite the nervous system and produce feelings of optimism and boundless energy. The term comoribidity is related with stimulants. It means when there is more than one mental disorder present at one time. Amphetamines are a type of stimulants. The can be smoked, injected, snorted, or swallowed. Short term affects are decreased appetite and dry mouth. Long term affects are delusions, weight loss, and brain damage. Another lovely day in Psychology, we saw this video about a young girl named Courtney. Her parents split when she was only 2 weeks old. Mom was diagnosed with depression when she was still young. When she was four year olds, her mother tried to commit suicide, so that passed on the depression to Courtney. When she was nine, her sister left for college, so then she continued to have a depressed feeling about being alone. After she went to go see her dad, she turned to heroin. After she went to go live with her sister, she ran away and went to go try heroin.

Hallucinogens are a type of drug that distorts visual and auditory perception. When you are on hallucinogens, you suffer from flashbacks. Flashbacks is when your memory is suddenly and unexpectedly revisited occurs in drug addicts and PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Hallucinogens may produce memory loss, paranoia, nightmares and aggression, but they DO NOT produce withdraw symptoms. In class, we saw a video about three people who were addicted on marijuana. Marijuana is a hallucinogen that looks like green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds and flowers of the hemp plant. It is a mind altering, psychoactive drug. In the video, these people were dependent on it. One guy tried to quite for his girlfriend, but couldn’t. He said if it came down to her leaving him, then he would cease, but he didn’t see it happening. I didn’t quite catch what made them go to “weed” but I just know that they tried it once and enjoyed the feeling of euphoria they received.

From what I understand, the greatest difference in depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens is how they get into your body. Some people attack their own body because they are so high, but that is only because their brain is under siege by the drug. It all reverts back to the brain, because that feeling of a “high” is coming from the drug entering and altering your way of thinking and how you perceive reality. Also they all have basically the same triggers: childhood tragedies. All three of these types of drugs are bad for your body and for the people who care for you around you.

  3. In this past chapter, we have learned about addictions and how harmful they can be to your body. An addiction is a complusive drug craving that is abusive to your body and will cause you major consequences.

The first type of addiction we learned about was depressants. Depressants slow down your behavior and cognition. The most frequently used depressant is alcohol. There are 8 million alocoholics in the United states and 14 million struggle with drinking problems. The short term effects of alcohol are skewed motor skills, blurred vision and memoery and jugdement problems. Morine and Heroin are another types of depressants which are called opiates. They resemble natural endorphins that block pain which produce a surging high of euphoria followed by a devasting low. Nicole one of the intervitionist was an alcohol who turned to alcohol after a traumatic event that happen with her boufriend and sister.

The next type of addiction we learned about are stimulates produce a high of happiness and are the complete opposite of depressants. A form of stimulants are inhalance which are ingested into the body by breathing in the vapors of products. Allison was addicted to dust repellant which is a chemical vapor that produces mind altering effects. It makes her feel happy and forget about the bad things that happened in her life. Meth is also a stimulant which produces a high and excitement, alertness and increase of heart rate.

The last type of addcition we learned about is hallucinogens which is disorted visual auditory perception such as marijuana, mushrooms and pcp. This might produces memory lose, night mares, aggrestion and paranoia. The trulife we watched was about 3 people who were all addicted to marijuana and when one of the girls wanted to quit it made her very aggrivated with silly things that happened like spilling milk. Unlike other drigs weed does not have serious withdreawl symtpoms like other drug.

In conclusion, all drugs are bad and produce a short term happiness, but a long term damaging to the body and the people around you that also suffer.

  4. Depressants slow down a persons behavior and the part of the central nervous system. Al, one of the guys in the intervention did meth but took like fifteen different types of pills as depressants to even out the effects of the meth he took before. Nicole drank alchol and when she did it would relax her and she would became so dependent on it for herself and the problems in her life. Courtney did heroin and would inject at least like up to eight times of heroin a day. It blocked her from her pain and the substance dependent. But in return of that, the depressant that either of them had taken later might have an effect of them being depressed because it does slow down a persons function of substance abuse.

Stimulants raise certain levels of activity of uncontanable energy. And in return, that someone thinks that they can like take over any obsticle just like that at that time. Al did meth and he would have mixed levels of emotion, like when he would need his mom to give him the money and pills, he would need it then. And also when he was in the garrage making his own videos, he had the uncontanable energy. But he was in that state of euphoria, where he was excited, full of feelings.

Hallucinogens kind of have the effect of perciving certain things that you see or don't. And can sometimes block out realilty. Allison did inhalants, dust cleaner, and she would get a feeling "like she was awalking on sunshine". Marijuana can have a certain effects of hallucinations and having the block out from the realility. The people in the episodes did marijuana and had diifernet levels of mixed emotions. John in the interventition episode did mushrooms and marijuana. He thought that he was the coolest D.J. ever and that everybody wanted him to D.J. for him. He would rely on his mom for money and food. He had anger episodes, where he would punch the refrigerator and leave dents on it.

Depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens all impair judgement, cause loss of cordination, alter the ability to concenrate and pay attention when abused. And all three are addictive and difficult to quit when they are abused.

  5. Depressants, stimulants and hallucinagens are three types of drugs that are very dangerous but each have it's own personal effect or cause from using it.

Depressants is mostly used for a psychoactive drug. It can slow dow your behavior and keep you calm throughout the day, thats why a lot people like it. In one of the intervention movies we watched,it talked about a guy named Al who was addicted to meth and would use depressant drugs to keep him calm and relaxed. It is still dangerous to take it because if you loose that high you start to become calm and if you take the depressants you will become even more calm which will cause you to get depressed. You may think it could help you out at first but in the end you will feel even worse than you had before.

Stimulants is the total opposite of depressants. Stimulants can increase your alertness, excitation, euphoria, blood pressure and sleeplessness. This drug is apart of opiates such as Heroin and Morphine. In another intervantion movie, Allison was addicted to inhalents. The inhalents gave her plessure, she would always be energetic when she was on it. She was addicted to the feeling she got when she was usinginhalents like Al when he was using meth. The dangers of this drug can cause servere brain damage, hearing loss and even death!

Hallucinogens have both effects of stimulants and depressants but mostly stimulants does. Hallucinogens involves marijuna, they can cause a person to loose there mind and think they hear or see something ridiculous becaus that drug has taken over there emotions and actions. For examples, DJ always thought he was famous but he was just an addict who had no future and always relied on his family for food and money. The causes that you can get from this drug is that you can have visual impairment, anxiety reactions, memory loss and etc.

All three of these drugs are dangerous. They may give you a short term happiness but they give you a long term effect that will change your life forever and can cause death.

  6. Depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens are three severe types of drugs.

Depressants are drugs that inhibit the function of the central nervous system and are the most widely used drugs in the world. These drugs operate by affecting neurons in the CNS, which leads to symptoms such as drowsiness, relaxation, decreased inhibition, anesthesia, sleep, coma, and even death. All depressants also have the potential to be addictive. Alcohol is one type of depressant, as well as the second most widely used drug in the world. From the intervention Nichole was addicted to alcohol since she was 16 due to the fact that he father was never really in her life. Drugs that are classed as depressants include, Ethyl alcohol, Barbiturates and Benzodiazepines.

Stimulants were discovered by Japanese scientists, stimulant drugs are used generally as a treatment for obesity, narcolepsy, and attention deficit disorder. One of the most powerful of the stimulant drugs is meth-amphetamine which is produced in clandestine laboratories. The guy who smoked meth in one of the intervention episodes had a flushed skin tone, and depression which is one of the many symptoms of using stimulants.

Hallucinogens are drugs that distort the way you perceive reality. They can cause you to see, feel and hear things that don't exist, making it hard to communicate or think clearly. They can also cause rapid, intense emotional mood swings.Hallucinogens work by disrupting how your nerve cells and the neurotransmitter serotonin interact throughout the brain and spinal cord.By changing the normal, healthy structure of serotonin in the body, hallucinogens twist and alter the way your brain processes your senses, feelings and visual information. When you are unable to get a grip on reality, normal events and situations can take on an unreal and frightening quality.DJ from the true life episode was addicted the marijuana which in some cases can cause a person to hallucinate.

Depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens all differ from what effects they may cause a person but the all have one thing in common. If they are abused the ultimate long term result is death.

  7. Throughout this semester we have learned about three different types of drugs: depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens. Each of these drugs effects and harms your body in a certain way but they also have many effects in common.

Depressants slow down a persons behavior which in turn keeps them calm throughout the day. There are many different types and kinds of depressants in the world but alcohol is the most commonly abused depressant because it is easily accessible to the public and it is relatively cheap and some of the short term effects of alcohol are lowered motor skills, blurred vision and memory loss. Take Nicole for example who started socially drinking when she was around sixteen, since her body became accustom to having it in her system she constantly needed it to function but she was always physically slower and couldn't function properly. However she would mostly abuse alcohol whenever she saw her sister who Nicole blames for stealing her boyfriend and ruining her life. Due to the fact that most addicts abuse when they are triggered and Nicole's trigger was seeing her sister.

A stimulant is the exact opposite of a depressant because a stimulant increases certain senses and aspects of your body such as your body's blood pressure and awareness. Just like depressants there are many different kinds of stimulants Al in one intervention was addicted to meth-amphetamines or meth for short. Meth is referred to as the hillbilly drug because most abusers are white country men, and meth for Al caused him to act like a teenage boy when he first started taking it. Meth also caused Al to have uncontrollable amounts of energy which he would use to make up stories and make videos in his garage. Some of the effects of abusing meth are brain damage, lung damage and most extreme death.

The last group is hallucinogens which can basically be classified as a combination of both depressants and stimulants because hallucinogens cause a person to have memory loss like a depressant but also anxiety like a stimulant. However hallucinogens are the only drug that cause a person to have flashbacks which is when an addict sees or smells something that reminds them of when they were using and they are physically in reality but subconsciously back in that moment when they were using drugs. One of the people we watched who was addicted to marijuana was determined to quit for his girlfriend but he couldn't and he knew the only way he could was if his girlfriend left him. The other guy was addicted to marijuana as well but subconsciously when he was abusing he thought he was a famous DJ but in reality he had to really on his family for everything.

It is obvious all forms of drugs are bad and harmful to a person's body. Whether people think they are or not, and every drug can kill you, it depends if people want to forget a memory or lose heir life. But it all comes down to whether or not we give in to taking these drugs just cause we want to escape reality or forget a painful memory.

  8. In this past section, we have learned about addictions to drugs and how harmful they can be to your body. An addiction is a complusive drug craving that is abusive to your body and will cause you major consequences.

Depressants are drugs that inhibit the function of the central nervous system (CNS) and are among the most widely used drugs in the world. These drugs operate by affecting neurons in the CNS, which leads to symptoms such as drowsiness, relaxation, decreased inhibition, anesthesia, sleep, coma, and even death. All depressants also have the potential to be addictive. For example, Al, from an intervention, was addicted to Meth; not only was he addicted to meth, but he was addicted to taking depressants after meth so he can slow down the high effects of meth. Also, depressants are used when someone is high because some think it will help them relax and calm down, which intensifies the feeling of the high coming down. It does have that effect, but its terribly harmful because once that person loses that high they become calm or if they dont take the pills after then the person is angry. For example, Nicole, who was addicted to alcohol, would take depressants because her mother thought it would help her, but really it just made her more depressed. These two did not realize that it's not good to mix drugs, doing this could cause you to have a coma, seizure, or worse even die.

Stimulants are a class of psychoactive drug that increase activity in the brain. These drugs can temporarily elevate alertness, mood and awareness. While some stimulant drugs are legal and widely used, all can be addicting. While stimulants share many commonalities, each has unique properties and mechanisms of action. The people in the interventions like the girl who was addicted to heroin and Allison, who was addicted to inhalants and and Al who was addicted to meth are addicted to the high feeling of energy that the stimulants give them. If a person becomes dependant on these drugs, then when they don't get their daily use of that drug they could go through a withdrawl, which can lead to the long-term effects, of: brain damage, hearing loss, memory loss, and sometimes death.

Hallucinogens are drugs that cause hallucinations - profound distortions in a person's perceptions of reality. Under the influence of hallucinogens, people see images, hear sounds, and feel sensations that seem real but do not exist. Some hallucinogens also produce rapid, intense emotional swings. Hallucinogens cause their effects by disrupting the interaction of nerve cells and the neurotransmitter serotonin. Distributed throughout the brain and spinal cord, the serotonin system is involved in the control of behavioral, perceptual, and regulatory systems, including mood, hunger, body temperature, sexual behavior, muscle control, and sensory perception. People on hallucigens start to live in their own imaginary world believing they a something their not. For example, John in the intervention was addicted to hallucinogens he lived in his own world that he was this famous and successful DJ who was known by everyone, but really that was all apart of his mind being on drugs. In reality he was a drug addict who had no job and relied on his mother for money and food and cigarettes. The problems with hallucinogens are it causes short-term memory loss, visual impairment, anxiety reactions, and death.

If the addict doesnt get his or her form of Depressants and Stimulants and these people are substance dependent then both can result in a withdrawal. On the other hand weed and some other hallucigens don't cause you to have a withdrawal.

THE BIG POINT IS DON'T DO DRUGS! THEY DON'T DO ANYTHING FOR YOU IN THE LONG RUN.

  9. Depressants are used to slow down a person and the part of the central nervous system, which causes them to become drowsy, relaxed, and sleepy. The most frequently abused depressant is alcohol. Short term effects include perception blurred, and motor processes limited; and long term effects can be liver disease and kidney damage. We watched an intervention on a young girl named Nichole. Nichole’s dad was an alcoholic and she felt neglected. After that, her old boyfriend broke up with her for her sister, after five years of dating. She turned to beer to numb her pain of heartache. Without her beer, her body can’t function, which is an example of substance dependency. No one in her family was trying to help her and didn't stop her from going down the wrong path. Her mother, who buys Nicole beer, blames Nichole’s sister for Nichole’s hardships and addiction.

Stimulants can increase your alertness, excitation, euphoria, blood pressure and sleeplessness. The effects of this drug can cause severe brain damage, hearing loss and even death. Al did meth and he would have mixed levels of emotion, like when he would make his own videos, he had the uncontainable energy. But he was in that state of euphoria, where he was excited, full of feelings, and whatever story he wanted to live became what happened in his real life. Al did meth because he was severely bullied as a kid because of his weight. Another form of a stimulant is inhalants which are ingested into the body by breathing in the vapors of products. Allison was addicted to computer duster which is a chemical vapor that produces mind altering effects. It makes her feel happy and forget about her feeling abandoned by her father, mother, sister, and her husbands.

Hallucinogens are a type of drug that distorts visual and auditory perception. Hallucinogens make you see certain things that aren’t really there, and can block out reality. Hallucinogens include marijuana, mushrooms, LSD, and PCP; and can produce memory loss, night mares, aggression, and paranoia, but don’t have life threatening withdraw symptoms. When someone quits marijuana, like the girl in the trulife episode, they get agitated and can get very angry over little things. Marijuana is a hallucinogen that looks like green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded leaves, stems, seeds and flowers of the hemp plant.

All three of these types of drugs create the happy feeling the chemical dopamine is suppose to produce in the brain. People use these drugs to get that feeling, that for some reason they are missing. As your body becomes more tolerant to ant of these drugs, you have to take more which either leads to rock bottom and off to rehab or the more permanent answer death.

  10. So far during this semester we have learned about the three categories of drugs. Stimulants, hallucinogens, and depressants.

Depressants are substances which slow down the normal function of the central nervous system. It slows a person down. Also, using depressants can result in a slowed pulse and breathing, slurred speech, drowsiness, poor concentration, confusion and impaired judgement. For example, Al from the intervention we watched was addicted to meth; and meth is a depressant. Whenever he was high on meth, he was a different person. Depressants may be swallowed, injected, smoked or snorted. In Al's case, he smoked meth and sometimes he would crush up pills and snort them. He would stay up all night doing drugs then sleep the whole day. It was a cycle he went through and over time he lost alot because of it.

Stimulants are a class of drugs that elevate mood, increase feelings of well-being, and increase energy and alertness. Stimulants are totally different than depressants. They increase your alertness, and make you more aware, unlike a depressant. ON intervention, we watched a video about a girl who was addicted to heroin, Allsion. She'd shoot it up her arm multiple times a day and she didn't care about anything except for the drug and the feeling it gave her. She also had a boyfriend that would get her the drug for her at anytime she wanted it. When she wasn't shooting herself up, she was angry and mad and moody but when she had the drug in her, she was totally different. Heroin also causes a decreased appetite which explains why she was so skinny. Heroin is a drug that will get you instantly high, but the feeling only last about 5 minutes. Allsion could easily die because of her addiction. Her addiction has lead her to behave in crazy ways. There is no way her body will be able to handle that kind of abuse much longer.

Hallucinogens are a drug that make you hallucinate; perceive reality in a different way. They distort visual and auditory perception. It can make a person see things, hear things that aren't really there. Some examples of hallucinogens are marijuana, mushrooms, and LSD. On an intervention, we watched a girl that smoked marijuana everyday, multiple times a day. She wanted to quit, and she tried but when she wasn't high her anxiety was really bad and she couldn't handle it so she turns to marijuana to make it go away. Some effects of smoking marijuana are red eyes, short term memory and anxiety reactions. When you're high you're in a different world, it makes you forget about all the bad things that are in your life and it lets you escape reality for a while. That's why so many people with hard lives turn to drugs, so they can forget about it.

All of these drugs do you no good in the long run and many of the people we watched on intervention could possibly die if they don't get the help they need.

  11. Depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens are the three main categories of drugs. These drugs are highly addictive.

The first category is depressants. Depressants slow down the activity of the brain and nervous system, slowing down the communication between the two. Depressants depress the central nervous system and reduce pain relieving stress, anxiety, and fear putting the person at ease. However, depressants are very addictive and the end result is usually a lessening of ones ability to deal with any stress, fear, or anxiety. Alcohol is the most frequently used depressant. Heroin is narcotic that is highly addictive; it is the most abused and most acting of the opiates. The girl in the intervention about heroin has a serious problem with her addiction. She was addicted to the feeling that heroin gave her. Every time she used heroin, she was noticeably relaxed and much slower in communication. This is how she dealt with her anxiety and eased her pain.

The second category is stimulants. Stimulants excite the sympathetic nervous system and produce feelings of optimism and boundless energy. Stimulants give the user an adrenaline rush often followed by a crash. Heavy use of stimulants result in paranoia, restlessness, fidgetiness, (constant body movements), apathy, irritability, and depression. Stimulants are drugs that stimulate the brain and central nervous system, speeding up communication between the two. They usually increase alertness and physical activity. Meth is a very powerful stimulant. Meth can be smoked, injected, snorted, or even swallowed. In one of the intervention episodes, Al becomes very addicted to meth and chooses to do drugs over his family. When doing meth, Al was up all night since meth increases alertness and sleeplessness.

The third category is hallucinogens. Hallucinogens distort visual and auditory perceptions. Some hallucinogens are LSP,PCP, marijuana, and mushrooms. They alter perceptions of the outside world and loose control over thought and emotions(see things and hear things). Users of hallucinogens often experience flashbacks. Flashbacks is when a memory is suddenly and unexpectedly revisited. Hallucinogens may produce memory loss, paranoia, nightmares, and aggression. The girl in the intervention video about marijuana seems to always be calm and relaxed. But when she didn't use it for a few hours, she gets very moody and upset when she spills a cup of milk.

These three drugs are very addictive and dangerous drugs. Even though these drugs ease the pain for the user, the more the drug is abused the more it is damaging to the body.

  12. Depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens are three categories of drugs. Each category has different effects on a person but all are very detrimental.
Depressants are drugs such as alcohol and heroin. They slow down a persons behavior and cognition. They can also keep a person calm or relaxed. In the intervention, Nicole was an alcoholic who relied on beer to numb the pain. The alcohol kept her calm and relaxed and when she did not have it she experienced withdrawal. Withdrawal is associated with depressants, unlike hallucinogens such as marijuana. Courtney also used heroin in the intervention. She would inject several times a day and was completely dependent on it. It was the only thing that could keep her calm and let her escape the real world. She also would face withdrawal if she stopped using for too long. Inhalants are also an example of a depressant. In the intervention, Allison did inhalants as a way to escape her pain. It gave her a short temporary high that caused things such as slurred speech and euphoria. Inhalants were the only way she could find to cope and stay calm.
Stimulants are drugs that excite sympathetic nervous system and produce feelings of optimism and boundless energy. An example of a stimulant is meth, or methamphetamines. It increases alertness and pulse. It also causes sleeplessness and psychosis. It is highly addictive. Al used meth in the intervention and when he would smoke it, he would take depressants like pain pills to mellow out his high. The meth would make him awake and hyper but when he took the depressants, it would calm down his system. Taking the stimulant along with the depressants is very dangerous. Drugs should not be used, let alone mixed. He could have easily killed himself.
The third category of drugs is hallucinogens. Hallucinogens distort visual and auditory perception. Marijuana is a very common hallucinogen. One thing about hallucinogens is that they can cause flashbacks, which are when a memory is suddenly revisited from when the person was high. Marijuana also does not cause withdrawal like the other types of drugs do. It is considered a gateway drug. In the intervention, one of the addicts used marijuana to cope with being raped when she was younger. Doing marijuana helps her escape. Marijuana is a mind altering drug and she says that when she is not high on the marijuana, she cannot help but remember her past trauma. When she has not had it for a while she does not experience the great withdrawal like the other drugs. Marijuana also has physical consequences in teens. In males, it lowers testosterone and in females it raises it.
All three of the categories of drugs are harmful to people. All of them are addictive and can cause physical and mental consequences in the long run.

Depressents include alcohal and meth. For example, Al, from an intervention, was addicted to Meth; He liked the instant high that Math gave him but then it gave him a deep low, a relaxed drowsy mood. Also, depressants are used when someone is high because some think it will help them relax and calm down. It does have that effect, but its terribly harmful because once that person loses that high they become calm, and if they have taken the depressant, they become extra calm and depressed. For example, Nicole, who was addicted to alcahol, Alcohal is a depressent in itself would take pills because her mother thought it would help her, but really it just made her extra depressed. Depressents also includes inhalants. For example, Allison was addicted to inhalants, which made her constantly depressed.

Stimulants, on ther other hand, do the opposite of depressants; They increase alertness, euphoria, sleeplessness, pulse rate, & blood pressure. Stimulants are found in opiates such as, Heroin & Morphine. For example, the girl in the intervention, who was addiected to heroin said that she lived for the high of heroin. She loved the energetic, alert feeling it gave her. If a person becomes dependant on stimulants, and even depressents, then when they don't get their daily use of that drug they go into withdrawl, which can lead to harmful long-term effects, such as: brain damage, hearing loss, memory loss, and even death. Even though depressents and stimulants are completely different, they both share that once you take that stimulant or depressent, you get an instant high or alertness and energy, but depressents end in a low drowsiness.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Stimulents, depressants, and hallucinogens are three types of drugs we learned this past chapter.
Stimulents make you more alert, increase your wakefulness, and give you a feeling of pleasure and happiness. Stimulents, such as inhalant, can provide a euphoria effect and alters your state of consciousness. Allison was addicted to dust cleaner and the results of happiness she got from it. The guy addicted to Meth, Big Al, loved the euphoria effect he got from smoking it. He became co-dependent on meth. People who take a stimulent can suffer from irreversible brain damage, depression, and death.
Depressants, such as alcohol, slow down your heart rate, blood pressure, and reaction time. Alcohol can slur one’s vision and speech. Alcohol is the most accessible drug. Nicole became addicted to alcohol at a young age. Her father was an alcoholic and was never in the picture. Nicole’s boyfriend also left her for her sister. Drugs are an alternate way of avoiding your problems and dealing with stress. Instead of coping by other ways, people try and put up a mental block by using drugs to avoid thinking about a trigger. Morphine and heroin are other types of depressants they come from opiates, a poppy plant. These are derived from pain killers that block pain.
Hallucinogens are auditory and visual perceptions. Marijuana and mushrooms are types of hallucinogens. These most commonly have no withdrawal symptoms but can result in death, memory loss, FLASHBACKS, and paranoia. In the trulife episode we watched in class, there were 3 people addicted to marijuana. There was a guy, whose friend went to jail for selling weed. The guy promised he would get off of marijuana with his friend, who was in jail. He would get agitated over little things, but was extremely careful about not using. His birthday came around and he went against the will of his mother, and smoked.

  15. Depressants are used to depress the Central Nervous system and slow everything down. The most commonly used and abused depressant is alcohol. Alcohol can lead to addiction and serious health complications. There are many side effects of depressants, which include inability to concentrate and pay attention for any period of time, impaired judgment and an inability to control one’s emotions. In one of the interventions we watched, we saw the life of Nicole, who is an alcoholic. Nicole’s father was an alcoholic and wasn’t around very much. Her mother let her drink under age, saying it was okay as long as they were at the house. Nicole started as just a ‘social drinker’ but after her boyfriend of five years left her for her sister, Nicole started to drink to get rid of the pain. Her addiction got to the point where she couldn’t function without a beer. Her family wasn’t doing anything to help her get over her addiction; instead they blamed her sister for Nicole’s addiction. Nobody made Nicole take responsibility for actions.

Stimulants speed up the activity within a person’s body and brain and produce feelings of increased awareness and concentration. The effects of stimulants include a high feeling. Once the person looses their high experience, they may choose to use other drugs to make the comedown easier. In the intervention with Al, he was addicted to meth and used pain pills to counter act his high. Al’s addiction started when he was bulled in school. We also watched an intervention on Allison. Allison was addicted to inhalants. She would inhale computer duster to get her high. Allison gets a happy feeling and escapes all her bad memories while she is high.

Hallucinogens distort visual and auditory perception. Lsd,Pcp,Marjuana, and mushrooms are all hallucinogens. They alter perception of the outside world, and loose control over thoughts and emotions. The person see’s and hears things that aren’t actually there. Memory loss, paranoia, nightmares and aggression are also side effects. We watched an intervention on a girl who smoked marijuana everyday to get over her anxiety. Marijuana was her escape from bad memories and her anxiety.

  16. A drug is "A substance that has a physiological effect when ingested or otherwise introduced into the body." Depressants, stimulents and hallucinogens are the three catagories of drugs.

A depressant is a drug that slows down the heart rate, behavior and cognition. The most common depressant is Alcohol because of its easy access and quick cure. Nicole was an alocholic who drank around 18 beers a day. This was to cope with the depression she was going through. She would have to drink more and more of it to calm her down because when her body didn't have it she went through withdrawl. Opiates such as Herion and Morphine are also depressants. They block pain by providing a instant high but then followed a devastating low. Herion is the most abused and rapidly acting opiate. Some of the effects include lowered heart reat, vomiting, brain damage and death. Courtney was using Herion by injecting it, the most common way for it to be used, she was dependent on it to get through everyday life. Inhalents are also a depressant. Allison inhaled duster multiple times a day and allowed her to escape the real world since it is a mind altering drug.

Stimulents are drugs that excite the nervous system and produce rapid heart rate and happy feelings with tons of energy. They are amphetamines that increase alertness, pluse rate and blood pressure. Meth is a stimulent drug that is often smoked, injected or swollowed. Al was a bigger user of Meth it caused him to be constantly full of energy which he then had to take pills to get back to normal. Meth causes decreased appetite, increased wakefulness, brain damage and anxiety.

The last type of drug is Hallucinogens. Hallucinogens are drugs that distort visual and auditory perception. The most common hallucinogens are LSD,PCP, Marijuana and mushrooms. Marijuana is a plant that is a mind altering drug. 1 joint is equal to 20 cigarettes. In one of the shows the girl used Marijuana to escape the memories of past experiances like when she was raped. Whenever that memory came into her mind she would go smoke and it would go away, it helped her escape. Unlike other drugs you do not experiance a withdrawl so your body is not dependant on it. Some of the effects include visual impairment, red eyes, weak immune system and respitory problems.

All three type of drugs are extreamly harmful to the body, even if you only use them once. They becomee addictive and can ruin someones life so before anyone thinks about trying them they need to think of the consequences.

  17. Depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens are all types of drugs that people use for one reason or another. We have watched a different person use each one of these drugs during class.
We watched an episode of Intervention about a girl named Nichole who had a severe addiction to alcohol. Alcohol is a commonly used depressant, and is in fact the most commonly abused. Depressants slow down thoughts and actions, as well as blurring vision and causing slurred speech. Nichole is a great example of the effect that depressants have on a person. Her speech is always slurred, her eyes are only halfway open, indicating blurred vision, and her ability to complete tasks is very limited, if not completely non-existent. She used the alcohol to keep her calm throughout the day and to keep herself from thinking about and facing her problems and unhappiness.
The next kind of drug we learned about is stimulants. Stimulants excite the nervous system and cause the user to have immense amounts of energy and put them in a good mood. This can be seen in Al, who used meth. The effects of a stimulant are seen when he sleeps all day because he stays up all night after using the drug because he has so much energy. Stimulants can also cause psychoactive behavior. This is seen when Al makes videos of himself pretending to be a police officer and seems as if he believes it. Al began using meth because he was insecure and was given everything he wanted as a child. His mother even aided him by funding the purchase of his drugs.
The last type of drug is hallucinogens. Marijuana is a very commonly used hallucinogen and is still becoming increasingly popular. Hallucinogens cause slowed reactions, impaired motor skills, red eyes, and distort hearing and sight. On intervention, we watched a girl who was addicted to marijuana. She used it because she had severe anxiety and the drug helped her to stay calm and relaxed. However, she was very cranky when she didn’t use it.

  18. Depressants, Stimulants, and Hallucinogens are the three types of drugs that many people abuse to get away from reality. We have watched many interventions in class that include all three types of these drugs.
The first drug type we focused on was Depressants. Depressants slow down people’s actions, heart rate, and difficulty to concentrate. The most commonly abused depressant is alcohol. In the first intervention we watched Nicole was addicted to alcohol at a very young age. She drank every day to get away from the fact that she lost her boyfriend to her sister. She built up a tolerance and drank many beers a day to get drunk.
Stimulants excite people’s nervous system and make then super hyper. It also produces feelings of optimism and much energy. Heroin is a much used stimulate that can be injected, smoked, and snorted. The girl we watched did heroine and many things to do the same thing everyone else does it for, to get away from the emotions they have for their trigger.
Last type of drug that we studied is hallucinogen. The most common drug of this type is marijuana. Marijuana distorts visual and auditory perception. This also causes flashbacks which is when a memory is suddenly and unexpectedly revisited. This is why they are called hallucinogens. We watched one intervention when a guy wanted to stop and tried to stop by going to rehab groups but he kept doing it to get that high sensation. This also was a gateway drug for him because to get money to buy marijuana he had to sell to get the money.
All these types lead to serious consequences and side effects. Many people abuse drugs and suffer emotional pain from the triggers. This is why they use to get away from reality.

  19. Stimulants, depressants, and hallucinogens are the three main types of drugs that we have learned and discussed in class.

Hallucinogens are auditory and visual perceptions. Marijuanais or "weed" is the most common hallucinogen abused. Marijuana most commonly have no withdrawal symptoms. In class There was a guy who went to jail for weed and another who promised stop smoking altogether. Eventually on his birthday he gave in and smoked.

Depressants are drugs that slow down your heart rate, blood pressure, and reaction time. For example alcohol can slur a persons speech and often times vision. Alcohol is the most accessible drug. Nicole from the intervention became addicted to alcohol very young. Her dad was never in her life and might of had to do something to do with triggering her addiction. Nicole’s boyfriend also left her for her sister which casuses more and more triggers. Most alcohol addicts use drinking as a form of dealing with stress throughout their life Morphine and heroin are other types of depressants that slow down your heart rate.

Stimulants are drugs that increase your your energy, keeps you awake and gives you a temporary and happiness. Stimulents, such as inhalant, can provide a euphoria effect and alters your state of consciousness. Allison from the intervention in class was addicted to dust cleaner. She was addicted to the feeling of dopamine it gave her. Al who abused meth was also addicted to the amazing feeling he got from using it.. He became co-dependent on meth. People who take a stimulent can suffer from irreversible brain damage, depression, and death. Meth is easily made but very dangerous and easy to be hooked on.

  20. A depressant is a drug that slows down a person’s behavior and keeps the person calm. In one of the interventions we watched in call there was a guy named AL that was addicted to meth. He took about fifteen depressant pills to a day to even out the meth effects. The depressants kept him calm but at the same time it was very dangerous to his health because of the amount of pills he took.

Stimulants on the other hand do the exact opposite of depressants. Stimulants excite the nervous system and provide countless amount of energy. They increase your blood pressure, alertness,, euphoria, and other senses. In the intervention with Allison, she would shoot stimulants into her arm everyday because she was addicted to the feeling that the stimulant gave her. Her boyfriend did it with her and would give her the drug anytime she pleased. She would take the drug when she was in a bad mood so that she would become happy after she took the drug.

Hallucinogens is a drug that distorts visual and auditory perception, in other words, they make you hallucinate. They make you crazy and see and hear things that are not really there. Things such as mushrooms, marijuana, and LSD are examples of Hallucinogens.

  21. Depressants, Stimulants, and Hallucinogens are the 3 main catorgories of drugs and all play negative roles in users lifes.

Depressants: Depressants are drugs that lower or depresses users arousal levels or levels of excitement upon being taken. When being users use depressants some of the things they use them for is for pain relief, a feeling of sedation, or just to zone out and calm themselves down so that nothing else matters. Depressants can also effect blood pressure, heart rate, and the resportory system. They can also cause euphoria, muscle relaxtion and if taken to the extreme death.

Stimulants: Stimulants are the upside to depressants. When users take stimulants they take them to feel arousal or excitement. Symptoms of stimulants can be enhanced alertness, wakefulness, and movement.Stimulants are usually taken when users are feeling down and depressed and needs somthing to get them out of the slumps so they turn to stimulants. Stimulants also can result in death if used to the extreme.

Hallucinogens: Hallucinogens are drugs that tend to give you visual impairments or false judgments of situations. When hallucinogens are used it effects the users whole perception of what really is going on in real life. They can also effect emotion and state of conciousness. An example of a worldwide hallucinogen drug regularly used is the marijuana plant. Marijuana effects a person state of mind vision, and speech. Sometimes it can even cause the user to hallucinate and see somthing that is not really present.

  22. Depressants, hallucinogens, and stimulants are all types of drugs that help you cope with situations or give you a high; but the three also contrast in many ways.

Depressants make you depressed....see what i did there? They make users feel sad and out of their mind but help them escape the real world. many users use depressants because they feel sorry for themselves because they have gone through a situation that causes them to use the drug. It slows down the person and helps them feel calm.

Hallucinogens is the second type of drug. Hallucinogens consist of Marijuana and LSD. Both hinder your motor skills and affect the way you see the real world. they can makes you see things that arent really there and make time go by really slow when in reality its been hours. Like depressants it is an escape from the real worl, that is why marijuana is one of the most abused drugs by teens today.

and lastly Stimulants are drugs that are the opposite of depressants. They make the user feel anxious, hyper, and let them not sleep for days. they have a high sense of alertness. some users have been recorded that they stay up hours at a time because they feel as if someone is watching them from outside of their house. all three kinds of drugs can make users do very crazy and unheard of things.

  23. Depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens are all drugs that can seriously affect someones life.
Depressants slow down behavior and cognition. Alcohol and heroin are both depressants. Depressants are used to temporarily relieve present stress or stress from the past. Depressants are drugs that inhibit the function of the central nervous system (CNS) and are among the most widely used drugs in the world, which causes the body to become drowsy, sleepy, and relaxed. Nicole was dumped after 5 years of dating her boyfriend so he could date her sister. Before, Nicole’s father was also a heavy drinker. Nicole starting drinking to get rid of the pain of not having her boyfriend or a father during her childhood. Nicole becomes so tolerant to alcohol that her body gets dependant of the alcohol and she can’t function without it.
Stimulants are totally different than depressants. They increase your alertness, and make you more aware, unlike a depressant. Stimulants are a class of drugs that elevate mood, increase feelings of well-being, and increase energy and alertness. They increase alertness, euphoria, sleeplessness, pulse rate, & blood pressure. For example, Allison off of intervention, who was addicted to heroin said that she lived for the high of heroin. She loved the energetic, alert feeling it gave her.
Hallucinogens distort visual and auditory perception. They include LSD, PCP, Marijuana, and mushrooms. They alter perception of the outside world, include a loss of control over things, a loss of seeing things, and a loss of hearing. Often when someone uses a hallucinogen they have flashbacks. Flashbacks are when a memory is suddenly and unexpectedly revisited. On intervention a young man was addicted to marijuana. He smoked 6-9 joints a day and couldn’t do anything without them. His relationship and everyday life revolved around him smoking.

  24. Depressants,Stimulants and hallucinogens are all drug types that we have learned recently.
These unfortunately lend themself to have and are being abused by many Americans.

Hallucinogens are as with all drugs are extremely potent when used in excess and mixed with others drugs.
As with even over the counter drugs but many of these intervention episode have people
who take a whole array of drugs that are detrimental to their health. For example one
of the people we have watched who is expereincing addictionss to hallucinogens would be
be Al. He is extremey addicted to Meth and smokes several times a day. For manyas with Al
it affects many many aspects of his life to the point of dysfunction with family life and simply life
    in general.

Stimulants are entireyly different thatn hallucinogens or depressants even. Although fairly
simple they release powerful chemicals that impair visual and cognitive and motor skills, all
given the user loss of control and that temporary high that is experienced or sometimes referred
to as the euphoria. Allison is one the people on the show intervention who has an addiction
to common product which can be bought in stores at an expensive price which is dust cleaner.
She fuels this expensive lifestyle by fact that she says she is traumatize that she never
had a dad growing up. Which is preventing her from pursuing a career in pharmceutical industry.
Because of this all-consuming lifestyle she cannot break out of.

Depressants are quite common and most commonly used substance is that of alcohol with its
availablility and relatively high high one gets of it makes it so prevelent. However there are other
things out there such as herion for example which is referred to one of the most potent things out there.
Lastly marijuana which is unfortunately popular among many younger people. Also is a psycholdelic which is often
referred to when talking about hallucinogens. However not quite the case with depressants
For example in the tv show intervention there was a girl named Nicole who had an insatiable addiction to alcohol
which was fueled by her parents money and part of the co-dependency they had going there.
